Inflammatory diseases affecting the musculoskeletal system from young to old age
Arthritis is pain, swelling and stiffness in a joint. Rheumatic diseases are disorders of the musculoskeletal system that may involve arthritis.
These diseases are common and approximately 15% of patients on an average GP's list have an arthritis related condition.
They can cause significant loss of function and quality of life, unless they are managed by a multidisciplinary team.
Although joint pain is a feature of most rheumatic diseases, these disorders may present in different guises, with other symptoms, and to a variety of specialist clinics ranging from dermatology to genitourinary medicine.
They can affect all ages and both genders; inherited conditions and multisystem inflammatory arthritis can start from birth.
The aim of the London Rheumatology Clinic is to provide a quick diagnosis and holistic management of all musculoskeletal diseases; from young to old age.
